Access Statement for Beachwood Guest house

Beachwood is a 3 storey building dating back to the Victorian era.
Whilst this does mean we have inherited some interior attractive architectural details it also means that the structure of the building does present some physical barriers to accessibility.
If you have any special needs please contact us before making a reservation so that we can meet your requirements the best we can.

On arrival at the front of the guest house
The front of the guest house is reached from Moore Street.
Guests arriving by taxi can be dropped of directly in front about 4 meters from the entrance.
Alternatively if you come by car and there is no room in our car park unrestricted parking is available opposite the guest house on Moore street whilst on the side of the guest house there is a restriction by way of double yellow lines.
To reach the main front door there is a small step then a little walk along the path to a set of 3 steps to ascend.
2 handrails are available on the right hand side and on the left side there is a bell (day bell) where guest's use to gain entrance on arrival.
The front door is not automated.
There is a small passage where on the left side there is a night bell for quests to gain entry in the evening, then you enter the middle door entrance that leads into the guest house on the left there is a door leading into the dinning room then a short walk leads you to the ground floor bedroom on the left.
Adjacent to the ground floor room there is a flight of 13 stairs and a further 2 steps to the first room on the landing and next to that room is the number 5 toilet.
Then you go up 3 stairs to the next floor where there are 3 more rooms which are number 3,4 and 5, then you go up 13 stairs then turn left to go up another 3 steps to reach number 6 and 7 rooms.

On arrival for parking at the rear of the guest house
When our guests arrive in there car, after making contact with us by ringing the bell at the  front door we direct the guests to the rear car parking area.

Reception
The reception area is located on the ground floor and is accessible on the flat once through the middle door.
The reception area is well lit and we have a public telephone available and the receiver can be adjusted for the hard of hearing.
On the shelf there are the registration forms to fill in and we would only be happy to assist guests with help filling in the registration forms if required.
There is a bell situated on the right side for guests to use if they need assistance. Also on the shelf is a credit card machine also a mobile top up machine, Help with luggage is of course available.
All public areas including stairways are lit up with carpet throughout the guest house.

Ground floor
The dining room, where breakfast is served, is located next to the ground floor room, at the front of the guest house.
The furniture is 2 and 4 tables with straight backed chairs we have 1 highchair and a babies chair, Each table is allocated a room number and every room has there own table (no sharing tables) and you are waited on by a member of staff, please tell us of any dietary needs.
We have a ground floor room.
Along the landing there is a shelf with registration forms to fill in, a credit card machine and a top up card machine for mobile phones.
There is a public telephone if you have not got a mobile phone.

Bedrooms
We have a ground floor room number 1.
This is en-suite with a toilet, shower, sink and mirror, shaving light towel rail, lino with shower and toilet mats, peddle bin, 1 double bed, 2 bedside cabinets, 1 wardrobe, 1 chest of drawers, 2 chairs, 1 hair dryer, tea/coffee facilities, remote controlled colour TV, radiator, fitted carpet, alarm clock, wall lights, rubbish bin, towels provided and an iron and ironing board available on request.

There is 1 guest room located on the first floor which is number 2.
This is en-suite with a toilet, sink, heated towel rail, lino with shower and toilet mats, peddle bin, 1 double bed, built in wardrobe, 1 bedside cabinet, tea/coffee facilities, hair dryer, colour remote control TV, alarm clock, radiator, fitted carpet, wall lights, towels provided, iron and ironing board available on request. On the second floor there are 3 rooms.

Number 3 is next with en-suite shower with a toilet, sink, towel rail shaving light with mirror, peddle bin, lino with shower and toilet mats, 1 double bed 1 single bed, 2 bedside cabinets, 1 built in wardrobe, rubbish bin, hair dryer, chair, tea/coffee facilities, alarm clock, colour remote TV, radiator, fitted carpet, wall lights, towels provided, iron and ironing board available on request.

Next is room 4 en-suite with a toilet, sink, towel rail, shaving light with mirror, lino with shower and toilet mats, peddle bin, 1 double bed, built in wardrobe, 2 bedside cabinets, 2 chairs, hair dryer, tea/coffee facilities, rubbish bin, colour remote control TV, alarm clock, radiator, fitted carpet, wall lights, towels provided, iron and ironing board available on request.

Next door to room 4 is room 5 with shower, sink, towel rail, shaving light with mirror, peddle bin, lino with shower and toilet mats, radiator, 1 single bed, 1 wardrobe, 1 bed side cabinet, hair dryer, tea/coffee facilities, rubbish bin, colour remote control TV, fitted carpet, wall lights, towels provided, iron and ironing board available on request, the toilet is along the landing.
And then you go up 13 stairs and then another 3 stairs to the further 2 rooms which is the twin room and family room.

In the twin room which is number 6 there are 2 single beds , 1 wardrobe, 2 bedside cabinets, rubbish bin, radiator, chair, alarm clock, hair dryer, wall lights, colour remote control TV tea/coffee facilities, fitted carpet, toilet, shower, sink with shaving light and mirror, towel rail, peddle bin, towels provided, iron and ironing board available on request.

And then we have room 7 which is the family room which can sleep up to 6 people there is 1 double bed, and 4 single beds (no bunk beds) 4 bedside cabinets, 1 unit for the tea/coffee facilities, wall lights, 2 wardrobes, fitted carpet, radiator, rubbish bin, alarm clock, en-suite shower, toilet ,sink, shaving light with mirror, towel rail, peddle bin, lino with shower and toilet mats, towels provided, iron and ironing board available on request.

There are 2 ground floor rooms, which are accessible fully on the same level once through the middle entry door a small walk from the first flight of stairs, for those rooms on the first and second floors there is a banister running full length of the stairwells, there is a radiator on every landing.
Please advise us before making a reservation if a ground floor room is required so that we can advise you on availability.
The rooms are en-suite except for the single room, number 5 which has its toilet along the landing; there is a small step to get in and out of the shower cubicles.
All rooms are fitted with carpets and radiators.
Mobile phone coverage is generally good and wireless internet is available throughout the building.
The fire alarm is audio only.
We do not have a night porter but as we live on the premises we can offer assistance in an emergency over night.
There is a no smoking policy in all the rooms and throughout the building.

General
we welcome families and couples; we have discounts for children, senior citizens and the armed forces.
The guest house has no literature in Braille.
Comments and suggestions from guests that could be included in our statement are always welcome.
We will continually update our statement as alterations and improvements occur at Beachwood guest house.
